EA Games and Insomniac Games released a demo for their upcoming game, Fuse, two days ago, and I checked it out on my PS3 today.
It was great. What’s more, it came out of nowhere. I hadn’t even heard of Fuse until a few weeks ago. In Fuse, you will play as one of four characters/agents in a special 4-person squad. The emphasis here is in co-op. You can play with random people or friends, filling out the 4 members of your squad. I think that’s pretty cool, but I played through the demo as a single player. In single player, the other 3 characters will be run by the computer. I thought this mode was fun, because it let me try out each of the four different characters. Each character has different abilities and weapons and you’ll have to work together as a team to get through the demo (and the game, I’m sure). I personally had the most fun playing as Jacob, who has what are essentially a sniper rifle and an assault rifle. The gameplay/controls were great. They kind of reminded me of Mass Effect 3 and that’s a good thing. I got used to them very quickly, and that’s also a good sign for me. What else is a good sign? Jennifer Hale and Ali Hillis contribute their voices to two of the main characters. If you’re not aware, they were the voices of Commander (Fem) Shepard and Liara T’Soni in Mass Effect. They are two of my favorites!
All in all, it was a great demo. I don’t like things spoiled and this demo didn’t do that. It just gives you a quick preview, enough to wet your whistle, and get you thirsty for more. I plan to play and review Fuse later this month.
EA and Insomniac also released a new trailer for Fuse earlier this week:
The demo for Fuse is available now on the X-Box Live Marketplace and Playstation Network!
Fuse (the whole game) comes to 360 and PS3 on May 28th, 2013!
